The Theatre Department at West Shore Community College will present The Crucible, the searing American drama by Arthur Miller, beginning Feb. 28 at WSCC’s Center Stage Theater.
Performances are scheduled for Feb. 28, Mar. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m.; and Mar. 1 and 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The production runs approximately 2.5 hours, including one intermission. Due to mature themes, the play is recommended for ages 13 and up.
Set during the 1692 Salem witch trials, The Crucible follows a community unraveling under the weight of fear, suspicion and accusation. As hysteria spreads, neighbor turns against neighbor, and long-buried grievances erupt into public condemnation. In a world where rumor is treated as fact and authority goes unquestioned, standing for truth becomes an act of extraordinary courage.
Though rooted in historical events, Miller’s masterpiece remains relevant. Written as an allegory for the political climate of 1950s America, the play examines the destructive power of mass hysteria, the consequences of unchecked authority, and the moral strength required to maintain personal integrity when reputations and lives are on the line.
“This production invites audiences to reflect on how easily fear can distort truth and fracture communities,” said WSCC Director of Theater Michelle Kiessel. “It challenges us to consider what integrity requires when the cost of honesty is high.”
