West Shore Community College (WSCC) recently opened registration for its new Connections Program with Ferris State University (FSU).
The WSCC-FSU Connections Program allows WSCC students to hold student status at both WSCC and FSU from the very beginning of their time in college. By participating in the program, students will have access to FSU facilities like the library and student recreation center, and will also be invited to participate in events on FSU’s campus.
“The program is designed to provide a university-like experience for WSCC students, giving them opportunities to learn more about FSU offerings, and allow students to interact with FSU students and staff,” said Dr. Mark Kinney, WSCC Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
The Connections Program originated with a signing ceremony on WSCC’s campus in February 2019, when the presidents of the two institutions, WSCC President Scott Ward and FSU President Dr. David Eisler, entered into an agreement to develop and implement the program. Since that time, both institutions have collaborated closely on the partnership and are now ready to make it available to WSCC students.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to learn more about Ferris State University, participate in some of their campus life activities, and meet new people from that institution. I would highly encourage any student who is planning to transfer to FSU, or is even just considering it, to sign up for the Connections Program.” Kinney added.
Current WSCC students wishing to apply for the program are required to have a WSCC username and password along with a photo taken at the WSCC Student Services office. Once the application has been processed, a welcome packet will be sent complete with an FSU student ID. Individuals who are not yet WSCC students should complete the traditional application to WSCC first.
There is no cost to participate in the program and signing up does not commit participants to attend FSU upon graduation from WSCC. However, participation also does not guarantee admission into FSU or any of its programs.
Kinney concluded, “The WSCC-FSU Connections Program is a way for students to meet people from FSU, broaden themselves by participating in FSU activities, and to learn more about the wealth of degree programs available at FSU for transfer. We are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to WSCC students. ”
