At its Dec. 15 meeting, the West Shore Community College Board of Trustees was notified of the resignation of Trustee Dr. Anthony Fabaz. Trustee Thomas Kaminski has since indicated his intent to step down following the Board’s Jan. 19 meeting.
The board will appoint replacements to serve the remainder of each trustee’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2026. Both positions will be open during the next regularly scheduled election which will be held Nov. 3, 2026.
President Scott Ward expressed his appreciation for the service of both trustees. “We are deeply grateful to Dr. Fabaz and Mr. Kaminski for their dedicated leadership and unwavering commitment to West Shore Community College,” Ward said. “Their experience, integrity, and steady guidance have been invaluable. As both spend more time away from the district in their retirements, we appreciate their thoughtful communication with the Board and administration in preparing for these transitions. We wish them the very best in the years ahead, and their contributions will continue to shape the future of the College.”
Fabaz was first appointed to fill an unexpired trustee term in 2011 and was later elected to four full terms. He currently serves as secretary of the Board of Trustees and is a member of the Board Policy and Personnel Committee, having previously served on the Administrative Committee. Fabaz retired as a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon from Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
Kaminski was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2020 to a six-year term and serves on the Board Policy and Personnel Committee. He is the former Manistee County administrator and controller, having retired in March 2018 after more than 31 years in county administration. A Manistee native, Kaminski has served on the Manistee Catholic Central School Foundation Board and on the Divine Mercy Parish Finance Council.
The Board of Trustees is now accepting applications to fill the vacancies created by the resignations. Applicants must be registered voters within the WSCC district and should submit a letter of interest and résumé to the president’s office by 5 p.m. Jan. 7, 2026.
The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who serve without compensation.
