Music Dept Spring Concerts
The West Shore Community College Music Department will be performing their spring concerts throughout mid-April.
On Wed., April 18, at 7:30 p.m., the Wind Symphony, under the baton of Professor Ted Malt, will be in concert at the Manistee High School Auditorium. The concert will highlight a diverse selection of wind band literature.
The college’s Percussion Ensemble will also perform during the concert. This year, the percussion ensemble has been under the direction of Xavier Verna, who is the executive director of the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts. He holds a bachelor’s degree in percussion performance from the University of Michigan.
“Xavier has been an incredible addition to our music programs and it will be evident in the ensemble’s performance during the Wind Symphony concert,” says Malt.
The WSCC Jazz Ensemble will highlight the sounds from the big band era and contemporary jazz works on Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., in the college’s Center Stage Theater. Please NOTE DATE CHANGE to April 17.
The WSCC Concert Choir, under the direction of Rebecca Sopha and Lew Wilson, will be in concert on Sun. April 22, at 2 p.m., in the Center Stage Theater. The choir will be performing selections of sacred, secular and contemporary works.
“The concert choir serves as musical ambassadors to surrounding communities as they perform a number of concerts throughout the year. Becky and Lew always provide our audiences with a musically diverse concert which is enjoyable for all who attend,” says Malt.
Malt adds, “The College’s music ensembles are home to many talented community musicians from throughout our area and they also provide regional high school students with another outlet for performance. It is wonderful to have experienced musicians and talented students joining our ensembles. PK-12 outreach is a mission to which we are all committed.”
