West Shore Community College (WSCC) is hosting an exhibition titled “Go, Color. Go!” featuring works by Jamey Barnard. The exhibition runs from June 12 through Sept.18, 2026 at the College’s Manierre Dawson Gallery.
The exhibition presents a series of colorful and playful paintings. Barnard uses a graphical visual vocabulary, often bordering on pure abstraction, to present daily objects and scenes. His abstracted images draw our curious nature out while his Rube-Goldberg like settings brings out the joyful mischief.
“The paintings, with their vibrant colors, are a feast for the eyes,” said WSCC’s Art Professor and Curator, Eden Ünlüata-Foley. “They offer a joyful perspective on mundane objects and settings while playfully inviting us to see the beauty right in front of us.”
Barnard is an Onekama based artist with a prolific career. Educated as a journalist, at Drake University in Des Moines Iowa, Barnard brought his curiosity and keen eye for detail to Chicago. While working in the advertising industry, he explored the beauty of his surroundings. Following his heart, he relocated to Michigan where he raised a family and has been making art in the West Shore area for many decades. His work has been featured in many exhibitions in Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
A closing event, including a pasta bar, is planned for Thursday, Sept. 17, at noon, at the Manierre Dawson Gallery located in the Arts and Sciences building. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on the weekends.
