West Shore Community Ice Arena

The West Shore Community Ice Arena is home to the West Shore Wolves Amateur Hockey Association, the Lakeshore Badgers, and Manistee Mariners Junior Varsity & Varsity Hockey programs.

The arena was opened in 2002, has a regulation sized single sheet of ice, and was entirely funded from private individuals and businesses from the community, as well as a grant from the State of Michigan.

West Shore Wolves Logo

The youth hockey association is proud to offer youth hockey opportunities for boys and girls ages 4-14.

Lakeshore Badgers Logo

The Lakeshore Badgers Co-Op Varsity Hockey team is associated with Manistee High School, but is ran as an independent association known as the Lakeshore Area Hockey Boosters Association.

Adult Hockey Leagues

Adult hockey leagues are offered on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Monday Night Hockey is a team league format where you form a team and register to play. Contact the Ice Arena for more information on how to organize or join a team.

The Wednesday Night League is for beginner/intermediate skaters and you register as an individual to be placed on one of several teams. The Ice Arena staff will divide the teams up according to the skill levels of participating skaters. West Shore Community Ice Arena also hosts an adult men’s tournament every year during the month of March.

The Fenstermacher Cup Tournament targets various skill levels as it operates three weekends of hockey starting with the B Division, B+ Division and then the 35 and older B Division.

Youth Hockey & Skating

West Shore Wolves Youth Hockey Association provides skating opportunities to the community for ages as young as three (3) years up to 14 years old.

For older skaters, there are two options including the Manistee JV and Varsity hockey teams who call West Shore their home rink.

We offer a Learn to Skate Program and an eight (8) and under developmental hockey program that is a great way to introduce kids to the sport of hockey. This program runs from October to the beginning of March with a very low financial commitment and there are rental equipment bags available.

Another great feature is a Skating Grant Program for low to moderate income families who may not be financially able to afford the fees associated with hockey.

We have a new instructor this season, Abigail Leese. Abby is a member of US Figure Skating,  Is safesport certified and has completed learn to skate instructor training.  Please welcome Abby as our new Learn to Skate Coach!

Abby, Learn to Skate Coach

Hello everyone! My name is Abigail and I have been a figure skater for seven years. When I was younger I was always fascinated by the grace that skaters such as Michelle Kwan had on the ice, and dreamed of being able to have that same experience. Then for my thirteenth birthday I was given the opportunity to join Learn to Skate. I instantly fell in love with it! Since then I have become a competitive skater as well as a show skater. In 2019 I became a national gold medalist at the National Excel Festival as well as a national silver medalist at the 2019 High School Final. Also in 2019 I was honored to perform in the gala at the senior US Figure Skating Championships aired on NBC. All thanks to my start in Learn to Skate! It’s never too late to follow a dream and thanks to skating mine has become a reality.
