West Shore Community College will explore the growing intersection of artificial intelligence and mental health during its next HumanKind event, “Mental Health and AI,” at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in Tech Center room 113/115. The event is free and open to the public.

Professor Stephan Taylor, M.D., professor and chair of psychiatry at the University of Michigan, will lead the discussion on the ways artificial intelligence is changing the world and its potential impact on mental health.

Taylor points out that AI is a disruptive technology, creating new opportunities while also raising important questions and concerns. Taylor will examine some of the potential benefits of AI for mental health, as well as the risks and challenges that may accompany its increasing use.

The presentation will encourage attendees to consider how rapidly evolving AI technologies may influence the way people understand, access and experience mental health care and support.
