Board of Trustees

 

The Board of Trustees, as provided by statute, adopts policies for the governance of the College. Formulation of new policies, or amendment to existing policies for the overall operation of the College may be recommended to the Board by the President.

Persons wishing to communicate directly to the Board of Trustees, or offer suggestions to the Board, may do so by e-mail to lmstankowski@westshore.edu

Below we have provided a list of board members, publicly-held meeting times and dates, minutes from meetings, and the Board’s current issues and concerns.

Meet the Trustees

Sherry Wyman Photo
Sherry Wyman, Chair

Mrs. Sherry Wyman was elected to the Board of Trustees in November 2016 for a six-year term that expires on December 31, 2022.  Mrs. Wyman was appointed as the Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at the board meeting held on January 18, 2021. She is the first female to serve as Chair in the history of the College.  Mrs. Wyman currently serves as a member of the Board Executive Committee. She also served on the Board Administrative Committee. Mrs. Wyman received an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Mid-Michigan Community College in 1983 and also has extensive banking and economics coursework from Central Michigan University.  She and her husband, Randy, own Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. in Scottville.  Sherry is also employed at West Shore Bank as a Commercial Loan Documentation Supervisor.  Ms. Wyman served on the Mason County Central School Board of Directors for 12 ½ years and on the Ludington and Scottville Chamber of Commerce for 6 years as the treasurer and 2 years as president.  She has also served on the Mason County Central Educational Foundation, the Scottville Main Street Board of Directors and Design Committee and the Scottville Harvest Festival Committee.  Ms. Wyman believes in the mission of community colleges and all four of her children attended West Shore Community College.

Richard M. Wilson, Jr., Vice-Chair

Mr. Richard M. Wilson, Jr. was appointed to fill an unexpired term of a trustee in 2009.  He was re-elected to a second term in November 2016.  His term will expire December 31, 2022.  Mr. Wilson was re-appointed as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the board meeting held on January 18, 2021.  He is a member of the Board Executive Committee and the Chairman of the Board Policy and Personnel Committee.  He has served as a member of the Board Administrative Committee.  Mr. Wilson also serves as a member of the WSCC Foundation Board.  He is an attorney for Mika Meyers, PLC in Manistee.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Grand Valley State University, studied theology at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio and obtained his law degree from The Ohio State University. Mr. Wilson specializes in municipal, corporate, real estate, environmental law and healthcare. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the Michigan Townships Association, the Michigan Municipal League, the American Health Lawyers Association, and is currently president of the Manistee Bar Association. Mr. Wilson has a strong commitment to the community.

Randy Tomaszewski, Treasurer

Mr. Randal Tomaszewski was elected to the Board of Trustees in January of 2019 for a six year term that will expire December 31, 2024.  Mr. Tomaszewski was appointed as the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees at the board meeting held on January 18, 2021.  He is a member of the Board Executive Committee. He serves as the Chair of the Board Administrative Committee. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Central Michigan University in 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Grand Valley State University in 1987.  He also received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Grand Valley State University’s Seidman College of Business in 1994.  Randy worked as a nursing assistant and a registered nurse for 10 years at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. For 20 years he worked in the surgical equipment industry as a Product Manager, Director of Marketing and Marketing Vice President for surgical equipment providers, for Skytron in Grand Rapids and also at Steris in Cleveland, OH.  Mr. Tomaszewski retired in 2014 after a rewarding 30-year career in healthcare, returning to Manistee County with his family.  In his early years, he grew up in Manistee and graduated from Manistee High School in 1979. Mr. Tomaszewski’s believes in the mission of community colleges and his daughter has attended WSCC.

Dr. Anthony Fabaz photo
Dr. Anthony Fabaz, Secretary

Dr. Anthony Fabaz was appointed to fill an unexpired term of a trustee in 2011.  He was re-elected to a fourth term that will expire December 31, 2026.  Dr. Fabaz was appointed as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees at the board meeting held on January 18, 2021.  Dr. Fabaz serves as a member of the Board Policy and Personnel Committee and also served on the Board Administrative Committee.  Dr. Fabaz retired as a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon from Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.  He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons and Fellow of American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

Lyndsay Earl, Trustee

Mrs. Lyndsay Earl was appointed to fill an unexpired term of a trustee in 2021. Her term will expire on December 31, 2022. Lyndsay is a member of the Board Administrative Committee. Lyndsay grew up on a farm in rural Mason County. She attended Michigan State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, with a specialization in Agribusiness Management. She started her career as a Member Representative for Michigan Milk Producers Association.  She serves as the Chair of the Mason County Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee. She resides in Ludington with her husband Seth and her two daughters.

Thomas Kaminski, Trustee

Mr. Thomas Kaminski was elected to the Board of Trustees in November of 2020 for a six year term that will expire December 31, 2026. Mr. Kaminski serves as a member of the Board Administrative Committee. Mr. Kaminski is the former Manistee County Administrator and Controller. He retired in March of 2018 after working in county administration for over 31 ½ years.  He has served on the Manistee Catholic Central School Foundation Board since 2004 and also on the Parish Council of the Divine Mercy Parish Finance Council. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an Associate Degree in Real Estate from Ferris State University in February 1984.  Tom was born and raised in Manistee and we welcome his expertise on the board as our newest member.

Drew Dostal, Trustee

Mr. Drew Dostal was appointed to the Board of Trustees on November 21, 2022, to fill an unexpired term of a trustee, who retired. His term will expire on December 31, 2024. Drew is a member of the Board Policy and Personnel Committee. He was an Air Force Veteran before entering the health care field. He received his Associate Degree in Nursing from West Shore Community College, his Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and his MBA from Ferris State University. Drew returned to West Michigan after leading hospitals in New Mexico, Nebraska, and Montana. He began his Corewell Health leadership role on August 3, 2020.

Drew is the President and Market Leader for the system’s northwest region covering Mason, Oceana, Newaygo, and Muskegon counties. He oversees operations at Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, Corewell Health Gerber Hospital in Fremont and the Integrated Care Campus in North Muskegon. Drew and his family reside in Ludington.
