Workforce Development - OE/OE Training

Open Entry/Open Exit (OE/OE) Modules are a self-paced educational alternative to traditional classes.  They are designed for students who can master learning materials and learned competencies without traditional classroom instruction. There are no traditional lectures or regularly scheduled classes, rather our modules can be completed as fast as your learning style and your available study time allow — it's all up to student! These modules are designed for the disciplined/motivated student allowing them greater control over their learning schedules.

All modules are competency-based and they all are presented in two parts:

1. On-Line Computer learning is substituted for what was traditionally called classroom lecture.  Modules are presented in the form of web-based, self-paced learning that is available to students 24-hours per day, 7-days per week.  The modules can be accessed from home, from a company’s training room, a public library, one of West Shore Community College’s computer labs, or from any other high speed internet connection.  This reduces the number of time-consuming, costly trips which must be made to the campus.  Prior to beginning the hands-on skill learning in the lab, students must demonstrate that the online learning objectives have been mastered by passing a hands-on ready test covering those objectives.

2. Hands-on skill learning is completed in WSCC’s up-to-date labs which are open several 4-hour time periods per week at the convenience of students.  Modules are only considered completed when hands-on skill competencies for which the module was designed, have fully been demonstrated by the student to the instructor.

Companies may work with the college to build individualized company programs consisting of the modules they feel best fit their needs.  In those cases, prerequisites of courses and order of courses may vary from the order laid-out for West Shore Community College programs.  Students entering the West Shore Community College programs must follow the order laid out by the program unless changed by approval of the instructor, Chair of the Department, and the Vice-President of Workforce Development.
