YOU MUST HAVE AN ADMISSION APPLICATION AND COURSE APPLICATION ON FILE TO GET ON THE WAITING LIST, AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENROLL WITHOUT BEING ON THE WAITING LIST. TNSG 105 - Nurse Assistant
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Training in job entry skills needed to care for people with varying degrees of health and personal needs in an institution or home setting. Addresses attitudes and behaviours that promote physical and emotional health, basic nursing and personal care skills, communications, safety, and application of learned skills. Successful completion of this course prepares the student to take the state competency exam.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon satisfactory completion of the course the student will be able to:

Assist the nurse by accepting, understanding, and completing delegated tasks.

Communicate and interact competently with residents & accurately document care given.

| 3. |
Demonstrate sensitivity to resident’s emotional, social, cultural, mental and physical needs through skillful directed interactions.

| 4. |
Assist residents in attaining and maintaining functional independence.
|
| 5. |
Exhibit behavior in support of resident’s rights, including HIPAA regulations.
|
| 6. |
Demonstrate proper safety techniques, including the Heimlich Maneuver.
|
| 7. |
Understand the basic principles of infection control and the prevention of communicable diseases (TB, HBV, AIDS).

| 8. |
Prepare for the state CENA testing.

CURRENT COURSES: All courses for Spring 2008 semester are full. Any empty seats will be filled by the waiting list.
SUMMER 2008 COURSES: Following are a list of courses that will be running beginning in May, 2008.
TNSG 105-51: May 6-June 12: Class meets May 6-June 5 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 3 pm - 8 pm. Three, 8-hour clinical days will follow; these will be either June 6-8 or June 9-11. Final Class/Graduation will be on June 12.
TNSG 105-52: TENTATIVE: July 8-August 28: Class meets July 8-August 14 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 8 am - 1:30 pm. Three, 8-hour clinical days will follow: these will be either August 18-20 or August 25-27. Final Class/Graduation will be on August 28.
FALL 2008 COURSES:
TNSG 105-21: TENTATIVE: September 9-October 30: Class meets September 9-October 16 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 4 pm - 9 pm. Three, 8-hour clinical days will follow: these will be either October 20-22 or October 27-29. Final Class/Graduation will be on October 30.
TNSG 105-22: October 21-December 11: Class meets October 21-December 4 Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays: 3 pm - 8 pm. Three, 8-hour clinical days will follow: these will be either December 5-7 or December 8-10. Final Class/Graduation will be on December 11.
