Transferring from West Shore

West Shore Community College is the perfect place to begin your academic career. If you plan on transferring to a four-year college or university, the work you complete here will put you well on your way to earning your Bachelor’s degree.

West Shore also has various Articulation Agreements with partnering institutions that can ease your transition into a Bachelor's Degree.

If you think a college transfer is in your future, we encourage you to follow these important steps:

Meet regularly with a West Shore advisor

An advisor will assist you to make sure you are on the right track and will:

  • Check progress toward associate degree requirements

  • Check progress toward MACRAO/MTA requirements (if you are transferring somewhere in Michigan, see below)

  • Assist with identifying existing Articulation Agreements

  • Assist with evaluating colleges/programs of study

  • Check transfer equivalencies. You must earn a ‘C’ or better in a course for it to transfer.

  • Make sure you are following a transfer agreement if one is in place for your program of study.

Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA

Effective Fall Semester 2014

The Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA) replaces the MACRAO Agreement for new students enrolled for the first time in or after the Fall semester 2014. Students who attended prior to Fall 2014 can still complete the MACRAO agreement until the end of Summer 2019 or can opt into MTA.

The MTA is designed to facilitate the transfer of general education requirements between participating Michigan institutions with 30 credits of lower-level general education from the sending institution being accepted as a block by the receiving institution.By completing an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, students will have earned MTA. Students can also meet the requirements of MTA by completing the specified courses.

Click here to see a complete list of courses that meet MTA.
