Technology Requirements

A typical online class at the College requires the following hardware and software. Additional course specific software, hardware, and/or plug-ins may need to be downloaded and installed on your home computer. If your home computer does not meet these criteria, one of our on-campus computer labs may be used.

  • A computer capable of playing Flash animations/video.

  • A fast, reliable Internet connection. Although some classes will work with dial-up (28.8 Kbps) connection speeds, a 56Kbps or broadband connection will provide more satisfactory results. Some courses require broadband. Using your cell phone's service as your ISP is generally not a good idea.

  • A current version of a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.

  • Web browser needs to have cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled.

If you don't know the answers to these questions, click on the "Is My Technology Ready" link below and it will run a quick application that will detect critical features of your computer's operating system and web browser and report the results to you. Please pay particular attention to whether "cookies" are enabled and whether "javascripting" is enabled. WSCC's online courses require both of these to be enabled.
