Conservation/Forestry Service Officers are law enforcement officers who protect natural resources at the local, state or federal level.
People who enjoy hunting and fishing are often attracted to conservation officer positions. These people could do very well in these positions because of their familiarity with game and the out-of-doors. However, some are surprised to find that they are required to work during prime hunting and fishing time, such as on the opening day of firearms deer season.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) operates its own training academy. Michigan DNR officers are assigned a geographic area that could encompass one or more counties. They work from a well-equipped vehicle which doubles as an office.
The U.S. Forestry Service has various requirements depending on the specific position. See their website for more information.
