WSCC offers three options for Corrections Training
A 160-hour Corrections Academy is offered each spring. Students completing this program are qualified to work as a county-level corrections officer.
The Certificate is a one-year, 15-credit program that meets the entry level training requirement for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
This is a two-year degree program. Qualifying graduates are employable at both the county and state level as corrections officers, but typically will have to attend an academy.
The Michigan Department of Corrections plans to hire a large number of new corrections officers over the next several years. They require 30 college semester credits (or 15 credits within specific fields of study) prior to application. The Corrections Certificate meets this requirement.
