Food for Thought Conference to Focus on Local Hop Farming

West Shore Community College will host the fifth annual Food for Thought Conference on Friday, Oct. 7, from 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Administrative and Conference Building.

The Food for Thought Conference, a partnered effort between the WSCC Sustainability Movement and Student Senate, includes presentations featuring local and regional practitioners of contemporary agricultural methods.

This year’s conference will feature local hops growers, processers and brewers who will share their trials and tribulations while highlighting the joy of cultivating this unique vine.

Then the post-harvest panel will explore the challenges and artistry of transforming the harvest into hearty and healthy meals.

Both presentations promise to deepen an appreciation for regional farm to fork movements, and a seasonally inspired lunch will be provided by Simply Catered.

Food for Thought will conclude with a tour of Little Red Organics, a certified organic vegetable farm situated in Freesoil, and participants are encouraged to wear weather appropriate clothing for the tour. Directions to the farm will be provided, but participants must make their own travel arrangements.

To attend the conference, individuals should register prior to Friday, Sept. 30.  Registration costs $5 and includes lunch and WSCC students are free.
